Hope to see you at the zoom Friday morning at 8:30
Iran is complex, so we are spreading it out to two weeks. For week one, our goal is to introduce to you to The Islamic Republic of Iran. We will focus on the Iranian Revolution and the various institutions that were created as a result. The institutions will be the hard part for this week. Get to know them we could do some sort of online quiz next week. :)
Next week we will look at key people that we need to know in regards to Iran.
Activity 1)
Iranian Revolution.
The Iranian Revolution is significant as it set up their current theocratic structure of government. Your goal is to learn about the Iranian Revolution by watching the following video links (I know one is John Green and that may annoy you, deal with it) Feel free to google as well. The second video link is the intro of a really cool movie called Argo. I encourage you to watch the movie if you are able with your parents consent. It tells the story of the Iranian Revolution from the perspective of 6 Americans and how the CIA got them out using a fake movie. It's actually a true story that the CIA declassified in the mid 1990s and this movie was based on it. Anyway, that link is the first four minutes or so of that movie. Check it out, it is free from bad language but full of good info and suspense.
Your task is to write 2-3 paragraphs answering the following. 1) What was the cause of the Iranian Revolution? What role did oil play? What role did the U.S./ Great Britain play? Feel free to write any other info as you deem necessary.

*note that actual names of people on this chart have changed (I think they have the president from 2004-2013 on there, we will have to know him but just worry about the position not the actual name for now.)
